Developer Story
Rethink, Reposition, Rebuild
One of the Triangle’s premier developers of upscale properties, Grubb Ventures and the Grubb Companies have been pioneers in North Carolina real estate since the early 1900s. In 1909 Henry Clay Grubb built what was then the tallest concrete-and-steel structure in North Carolina, a high-rise office building in downtown Salisbury.
Gordon Grubb, the great-grandson of Henry Clay Grubb, created Grubb Ventures in 2002 to focus on infill redevelopment while offering the highest quality living and working environments.
The Gardens on Glenwood Condominiums, Grubb Venture’s first project is located inside the beltline on Glenwood Avenue. This was Raleigh’s first high-end condominium project, destined to be a very special place, with very special features. Completed in 2002, this development won numerous awards, including the prestigious Sir Walter Raleigh award, the NC Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award and the Triangle Commercial Real Estate Champion Award for best multi-family development.
In addition to The Oaks, Grubb Ventures is currently working to redevelop Glenwood Place, an office park on Glenwood Avenue, into a mixed-use project incorporating commercial and residential development. 3700 Glenwood Avenue, is the cornerstone of Glenwood Place. The five-story Class A office building was designed by the world-renowned architectural firm Duda Paine and built by Brasfield and Gorrie, along with Grubb Ventures. In 2007, the 3700 project was awarded Development of the Year by the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors.
Grubb Ventures is also redeveloping the Country Club Homes property in the historic Hayes Barton community along with two other partners and the Palms Apartments, conveniently located near Rex Hospital.
